The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has mourned the death of former Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing his life of service, wisdom and exemplary leadership as an enduring source of inspiration to the Yoruba race and Nigeria.
Fasoranti, an Awoist, died on Tuesday at the age of 100.
The council said Fasoranti’s passing was a great loss not only to his immediate family and Afenifere but also to the Yoruba people and the country at large.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of the council’s president, Chief Jibade Oyekan, and its members, the Secretary-General, Chief Oladipo Oyewole, said the late elder would be remembered for his humane nature, amiable disposition and unwavering commitment to the Yoruba cause.
The statement described Fasoranti as a revered elder, distinguished statesman and influential leader whose contributions to society would remain significant long after his death.
“Pa Fasoranti will be fondly remembered for his humane nature, amiable disposition and an unwavering commitment to the Yoruba cause,” the council said.
It added that the wisdom he shared with those who had the privilege of knowing him would be greatly missed.
“The source of the wisdom he graciously shared with all who had the privilege of knowing him will remain a vacuum. But his life of service, exemplary leadership, and dedication to human advancement will remain an enduring source of inspiration,” the statement said.
The council expressed sadness over what it described as a great loss to the Yoruba race, while acknowledging the late statesman’s contributions to leadership and human advancement.
It said that despite the grief occasioned by his death, his life of service remained worthy of celebration.
“While we mourn his departure, we give thanks for a life well spent and for the invaluable legacy he is leaving behind,” the statement added.
The YCE prayed that God would grant the deceased’s family, associates and other affected persons the strength to bear the loss.
“May his gentle soul find eternal rest with the Creator,” the council said.
