A political leader in Oyo State, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, has condemned the attack on supporters of the Accord Party governorship candidate, Oriyomi Hamzat, at Molete Under Bridge, Ibadan.
Olopoeyan made his position known when Hamzat visited him at his house in Basorun, Ibadan, as part of consultations with political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The political leader emphasised his commitment to equity, fairness and inclusiveness in the electoral process, stressing the need for peaceful political engagement in the state.
He condemned violence against political supporters, underscoring the importance of protecting democratic participation and allowing political parties to conduct their activities without intimidation.
Hamzat, who is seeking to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in 2027, has been engaging political leaders and other stakeholders as part of efforts to build relationships across party lines.
The visit brought the Accord candidate and Olopoeyan together despite their different political affiliations.
Hamzat’s camp described the meeting as part of the candidate’s commitment to dialogue, peaceful co-existence and cooperation among political stakeholders in Oyo State.
The engagement also highlighted calls for political tolerance as parties and aspirants prepare for the 2027 governorship election.
Political stakeholders have continued to emphasise the need for peaceful campaigns and respect for the rights of candidates, party members and supporters as political activities intensify ahead of the poll.
