A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and governorship hopeful in Oyo State, Chief Olayinka Segelu, has appealed to young people in the state to adopt constructive engagement with government rather than resorting to frustration or division.
In a statement titled: “A Message to the Youths of Oyo State,” Segelu acknowledged the concerns raised by youths over governance issues but noted that leadership comes with difficult and often unseen challenges.
He said Governor Seyi Makinde has continued to make significant efforts in key sectors such as infrastructure, education, workers’ welfare, and rural development, adding that while no administration can achieve perfection at once, Makinde has demonstrated willingness to listen and adjust when necessary.
“I have heard the concerns, frustrations, and honest feelings expressed by our youths — and I understand them. But let us also remember something important: Governor Seyi Makinde is human, just like every one of us,” Segelu said.
He urged the youths to opt for unity and constructive dialogue, describing them as more effective tools in securing opportunities and driving development across the state’s 33 local government areas.
“This is our time to build bridges, not burn them,” he stated. “Let’s channel our energy toward unity, innovation, and positive engagement.”
Segelu reaffirmed his confidence that collaboration between the youth and leadership at various levels would yield greater progress for residents of Ibadan, Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, Oyo, and Ibarapa zones.
He called on the youth to remain steadfast with the PDP and continue to support Makinde’s vision for a more prosperous Oyo State, saying that collective effort rather than internal conflict would deliver the future they seek.
“Together, we can move from frustration to fulfillment, not by fighting our own, but by standing united for progress,” he said.
