The School of Medical Laboratory Science, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, has commenced activities marking its 50+ years of excellence in training and professionalism, bringing together generations of alumni for a grand Homecoming and Reunion celebration.
Themed “50+ Years of Excellence in Medical Laboratory Science: Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future,” the three-day event celebrates the institution’s legacy of producing top-tier medical laboratory professionals who have contributed significantly to healthcare delivery in Nigeria and beyond.
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Adebo Ogundoyin, is the Special Guest of Honour, while Professor John Ibhagbemien Anetor and Professor Abiodun Otegbayo, the Chief Medical Director of UCH, are the Guest Speakers. The event is hosted by Dr. Oluwafunmilayo Ayodele, Head of the School of Medical Laboratory Science.
The Planning Committee is chaired by Rev’d Idowu Akinbola, with Mrs. Oluwakemi Olanrewaju-Abdulai serving as the Secretary.
Festivities began on Thursday, November 6, 2025, with a Cocktail Reception at the School of Medical Laboratory Science, UCH. The celebration continues today, Friday, November 7, with an Academic and Reflection Day, featuring an Anniversary Lecture, Panel Discussion, and Interactive Session at SOM Alice Event Centre, opposite UCH East Gate, starting at 9:00 a.m.
The day’s activities will be followed by an Alumni Interactive Session, Jumat Service at the UCH Central Mosque, and a Dinner/Fundraising Event at the same venue by 4:00 p.m.
The grand finale is scheduled for Sunday, November 9, 2025, with a Thanksgiving Service at Christ Chapel, UCH, by 10:00 a.m., where alumni, staff, and students will gather to reflect on the school’s achievements and chart new paths for the future.
The reunion, according to organisers, provides an opportunity to strengthen professional networks, honour past leaders, and reaffirm the institution’s commitment to excellence in medical laboratory science education and practice.
