A United Kingdom-based lawyer and leading governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress in Oyo State, Barrister Niyi Aborisade [BANA], has urged Nigerians to embrace love, unity and selflessness as essential tools for national development.
Aborisade, who is also a poet and historian, gave the charge in his Easter message, where he admonished Christians to see the celebration as a period of love, appreciation of God’s sacrifice for mankind, goodwill towards neighbours and divine expectation from the Lord.
In a statement issued by his Media Office, the governorship aspirant stressed that the spirit of Easter should reflect in governance and public life. Aborisade further urged Nigerians to prioritise collective interest above personal gain, noting that genuine love, sincerity of purpose, commitment and patriotism remain critical to overcoming the country’s challenges.
“At this time in our country and state, we commend this love to all citizens, love that considers others first, love that prefers others above selfish desires, love that seeks to emancipate, unshackle and liberate. Love, sincerity of purpose, sense of commitment and patriotism will take us above internecine killings and other divisive tendencies,” he said.
The ADC chieftain also decried rising insecurity, particularly banditry, warning that it poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s development.
According to him, banditry disrupts social, economic and political structures, destroys livelihoods, especially in agriculture, worsens food insecurity and deepens poverty. He added that it discourages investment, weakens state authority and diverts public funds from development projects to security spending.
He, therefore, called for collective action against insecurity, stressing the need for citizens to unite against violent elements.
