The conference opens at Trenchard Hall by 10:00 a.m. on 10th June 2026 under the Chairmanship of Prof. Aloysius Okolie, Vice-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu. The annual conference is designed to respond to calls by Nigerians that all professional associations must no longer remain unconcerned about the situation in the country.

The theme of the conference is “26 Years of Democracy in Nigeria, 1999–2025: Reflections on Praxis and Challenges.”

Leading discussants include our elders and colleagues: Prof. Attahiru Jega, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Prof. Haruna Dlakwa, Prof. Alade Fawole, and Prof. S.S. Ibaba.

In keeping with the tradition of according recognition to our deserving senior members, the highest award of the Association will be conferred on our teachers and colleagues during the opening ceremony on 10th June. A new award category will be unveiled at the conference. The 2026 Fellows of the Association include Prof. John Ayoade, Emeritus Professor of the University of Ibadan and former President of NPSA; Prof. Tunde Adeniran, former Minister and Ambassador; Prof. Samuel Ibodje, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, UNIPORT; Prof. Attahiru Jega, former INEC Chairman and currently Adviser to President Tinubu on Livestock Development; Prof. Haruna Dlakwa, former Acting Vice-Chancellor of Borno State University, Maiduguri; Prof. Oga Ajene, a teacher of International Relations; Prof. Rufai Alkali, former Chairman of Governing Council, Federal University of Techology, Minna; and Prof. Sam Egwu, current INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner and former President of the NPSA, among others.
