Recognising that academic excellence alone is no longer sufficient in today’s competitive workplace, the institution has continued to integrate experiential learning, professional networking and industry engagement into its academic programmes.

This commitment was recently demonstrated through a two-day educational field trip to Abeokuta, Ogun State, where students were exposed to leadership, entrepreneurship, networking and cultural experiences designed to complement classroom instruction.

For the School of Business, the objective extends beyond awarding degrees. It is about developing graduates who can think critically, solve problems, lead teams and navigate complex business environments.

One of the highlights of the excursion was a networking luncheon at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), where students interacted with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Drawing from decades of leadership experience in both public service and international affairs, Obasanjo urged the students to embrace integrity, discipline, initiative and resilience as indispensable qualities for success.

The former president challenged them to believe in their abilities, remain focused on their goals and develop the courage to take responsibility for shaping their future.

The interaction provided participants with a rare opportunity to engage directly with a statesman whose leadership journey spans military administration, democratic governance and international diplomacy.

Alao,  students participated in structured networking sessions that encouraged collaboration, professional relationship-building and peer learning.

The exercise enabled participants to exchange ideas, discuss business opportunities and establish contacts capable of supporting their future careers and entrepreneurial aspirations.

In today’s interconnected business environment, networking has become an essential career asset. UISB’s approach reflects a recognition that professional success often depends not only on knowledge and competence but also on the ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships.

This message was reinforced during a session facilitated by Mr Chinedu Nwulia, who spoke extensively on the importance of networking, personal branding and professional visibility.

According to him, graduates who understand how to leverage strategic relationships are often better positioned to identify opportunities, access mentorship and accelerate career growth.

The educational experience also included a guided tour of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, where students explored exhibits chronicling Nigeria’s political evolution, governance milestones and leadership history.

For many staff members, the visit provided a deeper appreciation of public service, nation-building and the responsibilities that accompany leadership.

The learning journey extended to the historic Olumo Rock, where students gained insights into the history, resilience and cultural heritage of the Egba people.

The excursion offered a valuable reminder that effective leadership is often strengthened by an understanding of history, culture and societal values.

Officials of the School of Business said the field trip reflects a broader educational philosophy that prioritises practical exposure alongside academic rigour.

The programme was coordinated through collaboration between the school’s management, faculty members and student leaders, including the MBA Students Association and the Entrepreneurship Students Association.

Led by the Head of Department, Dr. Omitoyin  Siyanbola,  the institution continues to expand opportunities that expose students to industry realities and contemporary workplace expectations.

As organisations prioritise graduates who can adapt to change, communicate effectively, innovate and work collaboratively, UISB’s emphasis on experiential learning is helping to close the gap between university education and industry needs.

The school’s leadership believes that preparing students for the future requires more than lectures, examinations and textbooks. It demands deliberate efforts to cultivate leadership, entrepreneurship, critical thinking and professional competence.

Through initiatives such as the Abeokuta field trip, UISB is nurturing a new generation of business leaders who are not only academically grounded but also equipped with the practical skills, confidence and industry exposure required to create value and drive sustainable development.

For the University of Ibadan School of Business, the mission is clear: to produce graduates who leave the classroom ready not just for employment, but for leadership, innovation and impact.
