Obasanjo gave the charge during a networking luncheon organised as part of a two-day educational field trip to Abeokuta by the University of Ibadan School of Business.

The field trip, held on June 5 and 6, was designed to expose students to practical learning experiences and bridge the gap between classroom theories and real-world business realities.

Addressing the students at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, the elder statesman urged them to believe in their abilities, remain focused on their goals and uphold integrity in all their endeavours.

He noted that leadership requires vision, discipline and a commitment to excellence, stressing that personal values often determine long-term success more than academic qualifications alone.

His remarks resonated with participants, many of whom described the interaction as one of the highlights of the trip.

The programme also provided opportunities for networking, peer learning and professional development among students drawn from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

Staff members took part in structured networking sessions, exchanging ideas, discussing career opportunities and exploring potential business collaborations.

The students also toured the presidential library, gaining insights into Nigeria’s political history, governance evolution and leadership development through a series of exhibitions and historical archives.

An academic session facilitated by Mr Chinedu Nwulia of the University of Ibadan School of Business further underscored the importance of networking, personal branding and professional visibility in today’s competitive business environment.

Nwulia urged participants to cultivate strategic relationships capable of creating opportunities for career advancement and entrepreneurial growth.

The learning experience also featured a guided visit to Olumo Rock, where students were exposed to the cultural heritage and historical resilience of the Egba people.

Speaking on the significance of the excursion, officials of the University of Ibadan School of Business said the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen experiential learning and equip students with practical skills required in modern business environments.

The field trip was coordinated by the President of the MBA Students Association, Engr. Dapo Tella, and the President of the Entrepreneurship Students Association, Mr Kadri Olawale, with support from their executive teams.

It was organised under the supervision of the Head of Department, Dr. Omitoyin  Siyanbola, alongside lecturers and staff members who accompanied the students.

The university said the programme reflects its commitment to producing graduates equipped not only with theoretical knowledge but also with leadership capacity, industry exposure and entrepreneurial competencies needed to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy.
