Broadcaster and lecturer at Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Dr Opeyemi Orimolade, has received the Creative Industry Icon Award from the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA) for her contributions to the growth and advancement of Nigeria’s creative industry.
The award was presented to Orimolade during the 13th annual conference of SONTA held at Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Orimolade, a lecturer in the Department of Broadcasting, Information and Media Science at ACU, Oyo, was recognised for her “exceptional distinction, sustained excellence and outstanding contribution to the growth and advancement of the creative industry in Nigeria.”
The award, according to the organisers, recognised her contributions as a broadcaster, academic and creative industry professional.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Orimolade described the recognition as a call to greater service and impact in the creative sector.
“This recognition is a call to impact more than ever before in the creative space,” she said.
She expressed appreciation to SONTA for the recognition, adding that the award would further encourage her to contribute to the development of Nigeria’s creative industry through broadcasting, teaching, research and professional engagement.
The 13th SONTA annual conference also brought together academics, theatre practitioners, broadcasters, creatives and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s creative industry.
The conference provided a platform for discussions on issues affecting the development of the creative sector, while outstanding individuals were recognised for their contributions to the industry.
Orimolade’s recognition adds to her profile as a broadcaster and academic involved in advancing knowledge and professional practice in Nigeria’s media and creative sectors.
