The Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences,University of Ibadan (UI) is set to host its first International Conference on Economics, Finance and Business, bringing together scholars, policymakers and industry experts to examine global economic challenges and financial disruptions.
The two-day conference will be held on October 12 and 13, 2026, at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Building within the faculty.
With the theme, “Navigating Global Economics and Financial Disruptions,” the conference is expected to provide a platform for discussions on emerging economic trends, financial stability, business innovation and sustainable development.
Among the key speakers are Professor Adeola Adenikinju, former president of the Nigerian Economic Society and former presidential adviser, and Afolabi Olowookere, Executive Director (Alternate) representing West African countries on the Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The conference is expected to examine critical issues shaping the global economy, including inflationary pressures, debt sustainability, geopolitical trade shifts, capital market development, banking sector stability and sovereign debt risks.
Other areas of discussion include digital finance innovation, financial inclusion, cybersecurity and digital trust, corporate governance, entrepreneurship, marketing innovation, climate-risk finance and the global energy transition.
Participants will also explore sustainability reporting standards, inclusive economic growth, public-sector sustainability, consumer research insights and cross-cultural marketing.
The breadth of the sub-themes reflects the conference’s focus on the relationship between economic policy, financial systems and business practices amid changing global conditions.
The chief host is the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, while the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, Professor Akanni Olayinka Lawanson, will be the host.
