A former president of the Nigerian Economic Society, Professor Adeola Adenikinju, and Afolabi Olowookere, Executive Director (Alternate) representing West African countries on the Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), are expected to speak at the University of Ibadan’s first International Conference on Economics, Finance and Business.
The two-day conference, organised by the university’s Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, will hold on October 12 and 13, 2026, at the Central Bank of Nigeria Building within the faculty.
With the theme, “Navigating Global Economics and Financial Disruptions,” the conference is expected to bring together scholars, policymakers, finance professionals and business experts to examine emerging economic challenges and explore responses to changes in the global economic and financial landscape.
The event is the faculty’s first international conference dedicated to economics, finance and business, providing a platform for intellectual exchange and discussions on policy and practical responses to global disruptions.
Adenikinju, who is also a former presidential adviser and former Head of Department of Economics, and Olowookere are expected to lead discussions on issues affecting global economic stability, financial systems and business development.
The conference will address a broad range of subjects, including the emerging global economic order, inflationary pressures, debt sustainability, geopolitical trade shifts, capital market development, banking sector stability and sovereign debt risks.
Other areas of focus include digital finance innovation, financial inclusion, cybersecurity and digital trust, corporate governance, entrepreneurship, marketing innovation, climate-risk finance and the energy transition.
The conference will also examine sustainability reporting standards, inclusive economic growth, public-sector sustainability, consumer research insights and cross-cultural marketing.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kayode Adebowale is the chief host, while the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, Professor Akanni Olayinka Lawanson, will host the conference.
