Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on Friday commissioned a multi-million naira state-of-the-art surgical theatre donated by the Yusuf Olaolu Ali (YOA) Foundation to the General Hospital, Ifetedo, in Ife South Local Government Area of the state.
The facility, equipped with modern surgical and life-support equipment, is expected to enhance access to quality healthcare and strengthen surgical services for residents of Ifetedo and neighbouring communities.
Speaking during the commissioning, Chairman of the YOA Foundation, Prof. Yusuf Ali (SAN), said the intervention underscored the Foundation’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and supporting the government’s efforts to provide quality medical services.
Ali described the project as a significant contribution towards achieving the World Health Organisation’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC), noting that access to quality healthcare should not be determined by social or economic status.
He said: “Today marks a significant milestone in our collective journey towards enhancing healthcare services in our community. With great joy and enthusiasm, I am proud to announce the donation of this state-of-the-art multi-million naira operation theatre to this facility.
“This contribution is a testament to our shared vision of ensuring access to quality medical facilities for all members of our community in line with the WHO Universal Health Coverage.”
According to him, the theatre is equipped with modern medical devices capable of supporting virtually all routine surgical procedures, except highly specialised operations such as open-heart surgery and kidney transplantation.
Among the equipment installed are a hydraulic operating table, an anaesthesia machine, a shadowless LED theatre light, a multiparameter patient monitor, a digital autoclave steam steriliser, an oxygen concentrator, an electric suction machine, a diathermy machine, a surgical stool, wheelchairs, a patient transfer stretcher, an instrument trolley, a drip stand and other theatre accessories.
Ali disclosed that medical experts informed him that the facility could handle nearly all common surgical procedures, making it one of the best-equipped operating theatres in the area.
While appreciating the Osun State Government for providing the physical structure that houses the theatre, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria urged the government to deploy qualified medical personnel to maximise the benefits of the equipment.
“I equally want to appreciate the government for providing the physical structure and will enjoin the government to deploy qualified personnel that will put the equipment to maximum use,” he said.
Ali also lauded the management and staff of the General Hospital, Ifetedo, for their dedication and commitment to healthcare delivery, describing them as the backbone of the community’s health system.
He expressed optimism that the facility would improve access to life-saving surgeries and critical medical procedures, thereby reducing referrals to distant hospitals and improving health outcomes.
The legal luminary called on stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of the facility through proper maintenance and effective utilisation.
He added that the theatre should serve as “a symbol of hope, progress and compassion” capable of transforming healthcare delivery and improving the quality of life of residents.
Governor Adeleke, while commissioning the facility, lauded the Yusuf Olaolu Ali Foundation for complementing government efforts in strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the state.
The governor described the donation as a worthy example of private sector partnership in public healthcare and urged other philanthropists and corporate organisations to emulate the Foundation’s commitment to community development.
Traditional rulers, community leaders, government officials, medical personnel and residents attended the commissioning ceremony.
