Law students of Atiba University, Oyo, on Monday shut the university’s campus gate and commenced an indefinite protest over grievances against the institution’s management.
The students locked the campus gate as they demanded urgent intervention from the university authorities, insisting that they would not vacate the premises until their concerns were addressed.
Following the development, men of the Nigeria Police Force arrived at the scene and appealed to the protesting students to remain calm and allow the university management until Wednesday to address their grievances.
The police informed the students that the management had indicated that its representatives would meet with them on Wednesday to discuss their concerns.
However, the students rejected the appeal, insisting that they would continue the protest until the Vice-Chancellor, Founder and Registrar of the university personally addressed them.
The protesters maintained that the campus gate would remain locked until the university’s principal officers appeared before them and provided satisfactory responses to their demands.
They also rejected the proposed meeting with management representatives, insisting on direct engagement with the university’s top authorities.
The protest has disrupted activities on the campus, with the students remaining at the gate as they await a response from the university management.
The specific grievances of the students were not immediately made public.
