A former Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Prof. Wale Akinsola, has lauded the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Health Sciences Ila-Orangun, Osun State (FUHSI),  Prof. Olawale Akeem Lasisi, for deploying his administrative experience and academic vision to drive the transformation of the institution.

In a statement, Akinsola, who is also a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, said the leadership provided by the Vice-Chancellor had been a major factor behind the achievements recorded by the university.

He said Lasisi’s background, training and exposure, especially  his rigorous postgraduate fellowship programme in otolaryngology and subsequent MD research programme, had shaped his tenacity of purpose, hard work, resilience, attention to detail and goal-driven approach.

According to him, Lasisi’s experience also strengthened his administrative capacity and prepared him for the demands of leading a university.

Akinsola described the Vice-Chancellor as a rounded professional with strengths in project management, administration, clinical and academic work, research and teamwork.

He also lauded Lasisi’s commitment to integrity, discipline and institutional development, noting that his ability to connect with people had helped foster collaboration with staff in pursuit of the university’s goals.

The former OAU Deputy Vice-Chancellor said the Vice-Chancellor’s qualities had contributed significantly to the progress recorded by the institution within a relatively short period.

Akinsola also highlighted what he described as strategic foundational steps taken by the university to consolidate its gains and ensure sustainable growth and development.

He said the institution had developed a strategic plan with a three-to-five-year phased implementation timeline and measurable key performance indicators covering major areas of its operations.

These, he said, included student enrolment and programme expansion, curriculum review and innovation, academic planning and the development of a Management Information System.

He noted that the university was also investing in staff development programmes, including PhD programmes and research mentorship initiatives, as part of efforts to strengthen its academic capacity.

According to him, the provision of multidisciplinary research laboratories would enhance research activities, while an ICT-compliant work environment and continuous staff capacity development in digital literacy and skills would further improve institutional efficiency.

Akinsola also lauded the university for its commitment to engaging qualified and dedicated personnel and maintaining academic quality through appropriate quality assurance mechanisms.

He noted that the emerging town-and-gown relationship between the university and its host community was another positive development capable of enhancing the institution’s impact on society.

The former Chief Medical Director, however, said the contributions of the Vice-Chancellor should be viewed alongside the pioneering role of Prof. Lasisi as the institution’s foundation Vice-Chancellor.

He said Lasisi would be remembered for his commitment, dedication and passion for translating the vision of the Federal Government into reality.

Akinsola also praised his organisational skills, industry, drive and leadership, describing his integrity and performance as remarkable and inspiring.

“Professor Lasisi will be remembered for the pioneering work as the foundation Vice-Chancellor, for his commitment, dedication and passion at translating the vision of the Federal Government into reality,” he said.

He added that the Vice-Chancellor’s sterling performance would constitute a worthy legacy for the university and provide a strong foundation for its future growth and development.
