The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has reaffirmed its strong collaboration with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), clarifying recent reports surrounding the disbursement of student loans to its students.

In a statement issued by the institution’s Registrar, Mrs. Olayinka Balogun, the university said it maintains a cordial and productive relationship with NELFUND, noting that the partnership has continued to yield significant benefits for students.

The management expressed appreciation for the fund’s support, particularly the disbursement of over ₦1.4 billion in 2025, which it said helped to ease financial burdens and improve access to higher education for many students.

The university explained that during its pre-convocation press briefing, it provided an update on the ongoing application cycle under the loan scheme, but noted that some media reports misinterpreted the information.

According to LAUTECH, about 19,000 students applied for the NELFUND scheme, out of which more than 15,000 applications have been verified in line with established procedures.

It further clarified that within the current 2025/2026 academic session, a total of 5,237 students have already been approved for the loan and are awaiting disbursement, while other verified applications are at different stages of processing.

The institution stressed that at no point did it suggest any reluctance or inability on the part of NELFUND to release funds, describing such interpretations as inaccurate.

“Our intention was to highlight the level of progress recorded and to reassure stakeholders that the disbursement process is ongoing and on course,” the statement read.

LAUTECH reiterated its commitment to sustaining its partnership with NELFUND and other stakeholders to ensure that students continue to receive the financial support needed to pursue their academic goals.

The university also reaffirmed its confidence in the loan scheme and commended NELFUND for its continued cooperation and dedication to improving access to education in the country.
