UNIMED celebrates Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi at 86, hails enduring healthcare legacy

The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has celebrated eminent pharmacist, former Minister of Health and Social Services, and elder statesman, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, on his 86th birthday, describing him as a visionary leader whose contributions have left an enduring legacy in Nigeria’s healthcare and education sectors.

The institution particularly lauded Adelusi-Adeluyi’s pivotal role in the establishment of its Faculty of Pharmacy, noting that his commitment to pharmaceutical education has continued to shape the training of future healthcare professionals.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, management, staff and students, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebunoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe, commended the former minister for his decades of selfless service to the nation.

She described the celebrant as an accomplished pharmacist, statesman and administrator whose distinguished career has impacted public service, healthcare delivery, corporate governance and education.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Adelusi-Adeluyi’s leadership as former Minister of Health and Social Services, Chairman of Juli Pharmacy, Chairman of the MTN Foundation and current Chairman of the Olu Akinkugbe Pharmacy Education Trust (OAPET) reflects his enduring commitment to national development.

Adejuyigbe noted that UNIMED remains particularly grateful for his support through OAPET, which played a significant role in facilitating the establishment of the university’s Faculty of Pharmacy.

“As Chairman of the Trust that championed the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy, your unwavering commitment, wise counsel and steadfast support were instrumental in transforming a noble vision into reality,” she said.

She added that the faculty stands as a lasting testament to Adelusi-Adeluyi’s belief in quality pharmaceutical education and his passion for nurturing future generations of pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.

The Vice-Chancellor observed that his contributions had strengthened the university’s capacity to fulfil its mandate as a centre of excellence in medical and health sciences education, research and innovation.

She said generations of students would continue to benefit from the enduring foundation he helped to build.

Adejuyigbe prayed for continued good health, strength and wisdom for the elder statesman, expressing confidence that his remarkable legacy of service would continue to inspire future generations.

“Your extraordinary life of service and unwavering commitment to the progress of Ondo State and Nigeria remain worthy of celebration. We wish you many more years of impactful service to humanity,” she said.
