The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has taken delivery of its Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)-sponsored Medical Students’ Hostel following its completion and formal handover to the university by the project consultant.
This was revealed in a statement made available to journalists by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Isaac Oluyi.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebunoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe, described the project as a landmark achievement, noting that it was the first hostel built and fully owned by the university.
Professor Adejuyigbe said the completion of the facility, barely a little over one year into her tenure, represented a significant milestone in the institution’s infrastructural development efforts.
“This is a landmark achievement for our university. For the first time, UNIMED has a hostel that was built and is fully owned by the university. This is a significant step forward in our commitment to providing a more conducive environment for our students,” she said.
The VC expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, particularly the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, for the intervention funding provided through TETFund to facilitate the construction of the hostel.
The professor said the intervention demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in public tertiary institutions and enhancing the quality of education in the country.
“We sincerely appreciate the Federal Government, particularly the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for the support that made this project possible. This facility will contribute to improving students’ welfare and advancing the university’s development,” she said.
Adejuyigbe also lauded the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his consistent support and assistance to the institution.
She noted that the Governor’s support had contributed to the university’s ability to benefit from TETFund interventions, thereby facilitating infrastructural growth and institutional development.
The completed hostel is expected to improve accommodation opportunities for medical students and strengthen the university’s efforts to provide a more conducive environment for learning and academic excellence.
