Sixteen months after Mr. Olaoluwa Adetona, a rollout manager with Globacom Nigeria, allegedly disappeared during an official assignment in Imo State, his wife, Mrs. Funmi Adetona, has appealed for urgent intervention to establish his whereabouts and secure his return.
Adetona was abducted on May 6, 2025, while on a site acquisition assignment with two expatriates in Imo State.
According to his wife, she became suspicious after calling her husband at about 9:00 p.m. on the day of the incident, only for an unknown person to answer his phone.
She said when she asked to speak with Adetona, the caller allegedly insulted her, prompting her to contact her husband’s housemate in Imo State.
The housemate, she said, subsequently informed her that Adetona had allegedly been kidnapped.
Mrs. Adetona said the two expatriates who were reportedly abducted alongside her husband were later released, while her husband remained missing.
She expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding their release and the continued failure to establish her husband’s whereabouts.
The development, she said, became more painful because the family was not immediately informed by the company about the incident.
Mrs Adetona alleged that she was later informed that the abductors demanded N1 million before she could speak with her husband.
She, however, said company officials advised her against contacting the kidnappers, assuring her that the matter was being handled.
Sixteen months later, the uncertainty, according to her, had taken a heavy toll on the family, particularly her children, who she said repeatedly asked when their father would return.
She also disclosed that the prolonged ordeal affected her husband’s parents, adding that his father died earlier this year after reportedly struggling with the emotional burden of his son’s disappearance.
With previous letters failing to produce a satisfactory response, Mrs. Adetona said the family had now engaged a lawyer to pursue the matter.
She questioned what happened during the incident, particularly the circumstances surrounding the release of the two expatriates who were abducted alongside her husband.
Rejecting any suggestion that Adetona might have been killed, she said the family had not been presented with evidence to establish his death.
“There is no proof that he is dead, they should provide my husband,” she said.
Mrs. Adetona appealed to the Federal Government, security agencies, Globacom and Nigerians to intervene and help establish the whereabouts of her husband.
“For a year and four months, we have not seen him,” she said, stressing that the family’s demand was simple: to know the truth about what happened to Adetona and secure his safe return.
