It is heartbreaking to see the level of insecurity and abductions happening across Nigeria today. Every day, we wake up to painful news of innocent people being kidnapped, attacked or killed, while many families continue to live in fear and uncertainty.
As the Convener of **Our Future is Now Project* , I cannot keep silent about this. Nigerians deserve to feel safe in their homes, on the roads, in schools and in their communities. The continuous loss of lives and growing fear among citizens is very concerning.
The recent one at the Esiele community of the Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State. Armed men invaded the community, abducting 39 students and 744 teachers and 1 of the teachers was eventually murdered.
I am an advocate of keeping children off the streets and back to school. These recent abduction cases put panic in the minds of students and parents posing a setback to this cause.
Our future as young people cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear. We all have a role to play in building a safer and more united Nigeria, but those entrusted with leadership must rise to the task.
Even in the festive mood, we must not forget Nigerians still in kidnappers’ captivity and the families praying for their safe return. As we celebrate, let us continue to lend our voices and demand urgent action.
I sincerely urge the government and all security agencies to do more in addressing this crisis. Nigerians need to see real action, stronger security measures and justice for victims and affected families.
My thoughts and prayers are with every family affected by insecurity across the country. May Nigeria know peace again.
