The Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, has called on members of the institution and Nigerians at large to remain hopeful, united and committed to the ideals of democracy despite the nation’s security challenges.
In a Democracy Day message to the university community, Adejuyigbe said hope, unity and collective responsibility remain critical to building a peaceful and prosperous society.
The Vice-Chancellor lauded staff and students for their resilience, dedication and unwavering support in advancing the vision of the institution, noting that their professionalism and commitment had contributed significantly to the university’s growing achievements.
According to him, democracy thrives on participation, mutual respect, shared responsibility and commitment to the common good, values he said are reflected daily in the service and contributions of members of the university community.
He urged staff members to remain united in purpose, innovative in approach and steadfast in their pursuit of excellence, stressing the need to sustain an environment that promotes learning, research, discovery and service to humanity.
While acknowledging the prevailing insecurity in parts of the country, Adejuyigbe said Democracy Day serves as a reminder that hope must remain alive even in difficult times.
“We are mindful of the insecurity that affects our nation, yet Democracy Day reminds us that even in times of uncertainty, hope must remain our guiding light. Let us draw strength from our shared values, believing that peace and stability will prevail,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor added that education, compassion and unity remain essential tools for nurturing a society where citizens feel safe, valued and empowered, describing UNIMED as a beacon of hope committed to producing leaders who will champion justice, harmony and progress.
Addressing students, Adejuyigbe described them as the torchbearers of tomorrow and symbols of hope for the nation, urging them to embrace innovation, integrity and leadership.
He urged them to speak up for justice, uphold democratic values and channel their energy towards building a society founded on fairness, equality and progress.
According to him, the creativity, resilience and vision of young people will not only shape the future of UNIMED but also influence the destiny of Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that through collective efforts, the institution would continue to attain greater heights, contribute meaningfully to the development of Ondo State and support national growth.
