The Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) has re-elected its 2024–2026 Executive Council to serve another two-year term.
The association took the decision at its Annual General Meeting during the 13th Annual International Conference at the National Open University of Nigeria Conference Centre, Abuja, according to a statement by the General Secretary, Dr Solomon Oyeleye.
The conference, held on September 2 and 3, 2026, brought together communication scholars, media professionals, policymakers and other stakeholders to examine the relationship between media, technology and elections in Africa.
The AGM formally dissolved the existing Executive Council and unanimously re-elected it for the 2026–2028 tenure.
The returned 35-member Executive Council include Professor Rotimi Olatunji as National President and three Deputy Presidents: Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, Professor Ifenyiwa Nsude, and Professor Rukkayyat Aliu, while Dr Solomon Oyeleye serves as General Secretary and Dr Ifedolapo Ademosu serves as Treasurer.
Others include six Vice Presidents: Mr Lanre Agorgundade (South West), Prof. Uwaoma Uche (South-East), Professor Peter Esuh (South South), Professor Azeez Adesina (North Central), Professor Suleiman Yar’Adua (North West) and Dr Abdulmutalib Abubakar (North East).
The association also announced that its 14th Annual Conference would be held from September 1 to 2, 2027, in Lagos, with the theme: “Modernising Africa’s Trade: Media, Technology and Policy Pathways.” Special panels at the 2027 conference will examine the digital revolution and trade facilitation in Africa, including developments in customs, transport, finance, logistics and the blue economy.
At the Abuja conference, ACSPN conferred its fellowship on seven distinguished Nigerians: Professor Idowu Sobowale, Professor Umaru Alhaji Pate, Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie, Professor Rotimi Olatunji, Professor Stella Chinyere Okunna, Dapo Olorunyomi and Lanre Idowu.
The association also announced posthumous fellowship awards for Professor Dayo Alao and Professor Lai Oso.
In its broader resolutions, ACSPN committed to strengthening collaboration among scholars, media professionals, electoral bodies, regulators, technology providers, and civil society, particularly in research, professional practice, public education, and policy engagement.
The association said the future of African democracy would be significantly shaped by the integrity of information systems, the responsibility of communication actors and the capacity of institutions to adapt to technological disruption.
