President Bola Tinubu has appointed Moshood Onifade Akinwande as the President of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON), who will be sworn in by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume .
SURCON is the regulatory Body for all surveyors in Nigeria. It comprises 59 members of which all Surveyors-General of the 36 states of the federation, and the Director, Mapping in Abuja, are members.
The 1981 Set of the Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo, where Akinwande is an Alumnus, made the appointment known in a congratulatory message signed by its President, Segun Oke, and made available to journalists.
The release noted that “the 1981 Set of Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo Town, Oyo State, Nigeria, heartily congratulates one of our own, Surv. Moshood Onifade Akinwande, on his well-deserved appointment as the President of the Surveyor Council of Nigeria (SURCON) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria under CAP S18, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004”.
Declaring that the swearing-in ceremony which will hold on 21 July, 2026, will be performed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Alumni said, “This landmark appointment is a testament to Surv. Akinwande’s years of dedication, professionalism, and excellence in the surveying profession. It is also a proud reflection of the solid foundation, discipline, and academic excellence for which our Alma Mater, Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo, is known.
“As a Set, we are immensely proud that a product of Ladigbolu Grammar School, 1981 Set, has risen to lead the apex regulatory body for surveying in Nigeria. This achievement brings honor not only to Surv. Akinwande and his family, but also to our school, our Set, and the entire Oyo community.
“We therefore felicitate Surv. Akinwande, his family, and the entire surveying profession, while we pray that God Almighty will grant him wisdom, strength, and grace to pilot the affairs of SURCON to greater heights.
“We call on all members of the 1981 Set, fellow alumni of Ladigbolu Grammar School, and well-wishers to join us in celebrating this milestone and to support him in prayers as he assumes this national assignment.

Surv. Akinwande hails from Molete Compound in Oyo Town. He retired in 2018 as a Director, Research, Planning and Documentation in the Office of the Surveyor- General of the Federation.
