A member of the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan (UI) and co-founder of the Nigeria in Diaspora Forum, Hon. Ifeoma Nwankwo, has congratulated Professor Peter Olapegba on his appointment as the institution’s 14th Vice-Chancellor, expressing confidence that his leadership will help raise the university’s global profile.
Nwankwo described Olapegba’s appointment as a landmark achievement, saying his academic pedigree, leadership qualities and commitment to excellence would consolidate UI’s position as Nigeria’s premier university while enhancing its international reputation.
In a congratulatory message, the foremost educationist said Olapegba’s appointment reflected his outstanding record of service, scholarship and leadership.
“Your dedication to serving the people has earned you this incredible milestone. I am confident that under your guidance, our university will continue to rank among the world’s leading universities,” she said.
Nwankwo noted that Olapegba emerged first from a highly competitive field of distinguished scholars who vied for the office of Vice-Chancellor.
“This is a milestone achievement. You emerged first among an outstanding assemblage of distinguished professors who competed for the office of Vice-Chancellor of Nigeria’s first and premier university,” she stated.
She congratulated the university community on what she described as an excellent choice, urging members of staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders to rally behind the new Vice-Chancellor in advancing the institution’s tradition of excellence in teaching, research and community service.
According to her, the support and cooperation of the entire university community will be crucial to the success of the new administration’s vision of sustaining academic excellence, deepening research, strengthening international partnerships and enhancing the university’s global competitiveness.
Nwankwo expressed optimism that Olapegba’s tenure would usher in fresh opportunities for innovation, institutional development, increased research visibility, stronger international collaborations and improved global rankings for the university.
