The Nigerian Economic Society (NES), Oyo State chapter, has congratulated two of its members, Samuel Olatunde Orekoya and Oluwatosin Ademola Adeniyi, on their promotion to the rank of professor by the University of Ibadan (UI).
The two academics are among scholars promoted from Reader to Professor by the university.
In a statement signed by its Secretary, Dr. Victoria Foye, and made available to journalists by the state Public Relations Officer (PRO), Comrade Rotimi Agboluaje, the society described the promotions as well-deserved.
The society also lauded the University of Ibadan for recognising the academics’ contributions to teaching, research and scholarship.
Prof. Orekoya is the immediate past Head of the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences. He joined the university in 2012 and became a Reader in 2021.

Before joining the university, he worked with Savannah Bank Plc as Acting Business Development Manager/Deputy Manager and with United Bank for Africa (UBA), Kano Main Business Office, as a Credit and Marketing Officer.

Adeniyi is an economist in the university’s Department of Economics, with research interests spanning energy economics, international economics, open-economy macroeconomics and development economics.

His academic career includes research and teaching appointments at the University of Ibadan and Redeemer’s University, as well as experience with the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa.
His research publications cover oil price shocks, economic growth, exchange rates, foreign direct investment and financial-sector development.
The promotions form part of the university’s recent elevation of 46 academic staff members, comprising 23 promoted to Professor and another 23 elevated to Reader.
