The South-West Zonal Executive Committee of the Peoples’  Democratic Party (PDP) , on Monday  cautioned former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, against what it described as divisive and inflammatory remarks, while reaffirming its support for Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

The party  Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, who addressed journalists at the Adagunodo Zonal Office of  the party in Ibadan,  also dismissed as unfounded speculations of an impeachment plot against Makinde, describing them as a calculated attempt to create political tension.

Other executives of the zone were present at the press conference.

The zone expressed solidarity with Nigerians amid prevailing economic hardship, insecurity and uncertainty, assuring that the PDP remains committed to providing a credible alternative anchored on people-centred governance, stability and national development.

It said: “We unequivocally identify with and stand firmly behind Governor Seyi Makinde, whose administration continues to demonstrate stability, focus and an unwavering commitment to delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State.”

The party commended Makinde’s role in strengthening multi-party democracy, noting that his leadership has contributed to political stability in the state.

On the reported impeachment plot, the PDP South-West said there was no basis for such claims, urging the public to disregard what it described as “baseless and contrived” allegations.

“The rumoured impeachment plot is nothing more than a calculated attempt to create unnecessary political tension and should be ignored by all well-meaning Nigerians,” the statement added.

The zone, however, took a swipe at Fayose over his recent comments, accusing him of making statements capable of deepening division and politicising sensitive traditional institutions.

It described the remarks as irresponsible and self-serving, warning that such utterances could inflame tensions if not checked.

“The PDP South-West strongly condemns the reckless and divisive comments made by former Governor Ayodele Fayose. Such utterances are capable of inciting tension, particularly through the needless politicisation of revered traditional institutions,” the party stated.

The party called on Nigerians to remain calm, vigilant and united, urging them to resist attempts by political actors to destabilise the polity for personal gain.

It further pledged its loyalty to the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), reaffirming its commitment to party unity, discipline and cohesion across all levels.

While appreciating Nigerians for their resilience, the PDP South-West assured that it would continue to pursue responsible leadership and policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.
