The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, on Monday assured pensioners and residents that they would not suffer under his administration if elected governor in 2027.
Adekanmbi also pledged to sustain the payment of salaries, pensions and other benefits, saying he would build on the achievements of past administrations and perform better than the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde.
The APM candidate gave the assurances during an interactive session with members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State Council, held at Agbarigo, Ibadan, where he presented aspects of his political and governance agenda.
He declared that his experience and familiarity with the state’s needs would enable him to deliver on his promises.
He said, “I will use experience gathered from past governors to take Oyo to greater heights. I am 7.0. I won’t disappoint you on salary and pension payments.
“I have first-hand knowledge of all nooks and crannies of Oyo State. I have toured all the local governments several times. If Seyi Makinde has done well, I want to do more. I know the needs of all regions of the state.”
Adekanmbi also promised to improve on Makinde’s performance, assuring pensioners that their entitlements would remain a priority under his administration.
“I will do better than Governor Seyi Makinde. I will keep my promises. I will continue to pay your pensions and benefits under the Bimbo Adekanmbi administration. You won’t suffer under my government,” he said.
He also challenged other governorship candidates to present their programmes and explain how they intended to address the needs of the people.
“Let us other candidates come and explain what they would do,” he added.
On the conduct of the 2027 governorship election, Adekanmbi urged vigilance, saying his supporters would be alert to prevent electoral malpractice.
“We will be vigilant and guard against rigging,” he said.
The APM candidate’s remarks come as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
