Aspirant for Oyo South Senatorial District on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) and member representing Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-west Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, on Tuesday led a high-powered delegation on an on-the-spot assessment visit to Community High School, Ahoro Esiele, Ikoyi-Ile in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State over the recent kidnapping incident in the area.
The visit followed growing concerns and tension within the community after the abduction incident, which has heightened fear and anxiety among residents.
Olajide, who expressed concern over the worsening security situation in parts of the state, said urgent and decisive intervention was required to protect residents from criminal elements.
He was accompanied by the APM Oyo North senatorial aspirant, Alhaji Shina Peller; Oyo State governorship aspirant of the party, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi; House of Representatives aspirant for Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola, alongside other party stakeholders and supporters.
The delegation met with community leaders and residents, who lamented the rising insecurity and its impact on daily life, education and economic activities in the area.
Olajide described the incident as “painful and unacceptable,” warning that no community should be allowed to live under the constant threat of violence and abduction.
“We cannot continue to allow criminal elements terrorise innocent citizens and destabilise our communities. Oyo State must remain safe and secure for everyone. The lives of our people are too precious to be sacrificed to insecurity and lawlessness,” he said.
The lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, advocated stronger intelligence gathering, community policing and the deployment of technology-driven security systems to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes.
According to him, modern security threats require digital surveillance tools, improved intelligence sharing and stronger inter-agency collaboration.
“As Chairman of the House Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, I strongly believe technology must play a central role in addressing kidnapping and violent crimes. We must strengthen intelligence systems and deploy modern tools capable of exposing and dismantling these criminal networks,” he added.
Olajide also commiserated with affected families and assured residents that their concerns would be escalated to relevant authorities for urgent action.
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue victims and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
Residents and community leaders, in their remarks, called for increased security presence in the area, particularly around schools and vulnerable rural settlements, while expressing appreciation to the delegation for the visit, which they described as timely and reassuring.
