The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the August 2025 Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, Chief (Mrs.) Olajumoke Olabisi Odususi, has commended President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and security agencies for securing the release of victims abducted during the May 15 attack on Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Odususi, in a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan, also congratulated the freed victims, their families and residents of Oyo State, describing their release after 56 days in captivity as a welcome relief.
The victims were kidnapped when heavily armed bandits invaded the two communities, killing two persons during the attack. One of the abducted teachers was later murdered by the kidnappers, heightening public anxiety over the fate of those still in captivity.
Describing the successful rescue as encouraging, the APGA chieftain said it reflected the commitment of the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government and security agencies to addressing insecurity.
She urged the authorities to sustain the momentum by strengthening intelligence gathering, improving inter-agency collaboration and adopting proactive measures to prevent similar attacks.
According to her, the Oyo State Government should deepen its security partnership with the Federal Government and relevant agencies to enhance the protection of lives and property across the state.
“We are delighted that the abductees have regained their freedom after weeks of uncertainty. I commend President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde and the security agencies for their efforts in securing their release,” she said.
Odususi also sympathised with the families of those who lost their lives during the incident, stressing that the country must intensify efforts to eliminate kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.
She maintained that insecurity remains a major obstacle to national development, urging governments at all levels, security agencies and communities to work together to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
